about

As an Iranian American emcee I, like many others in the Iranian diaspora have watched as the Islamic Republic have retaliated against protesters in Iran for demonstrating in an effort to obtain justice for Mahsa Amini. Mahsa was a 22 year old woman who was taken into custody by Iran's "Morality Police", by whom she was beaten so badly she slipped from into a coma, only to pass away days later from the blunt trama caused by the injuries she sustained. In retailiation for these protests, the Islamic Republic have shut down internet access to the people Iran, all the while brutally beating, abducting, and murdering it's citizens over excercising a basic right of expression. This has now escalated beyond protests and has become a war for freedom waged by the people of Iran vs. the governing body of the Islamic republic to obtain their freedom. Yet much of the world outside of the Iranian diaspora is still unaware of the plight that my people still face. So out of a need to spread awareness, the song "Azadi" was born.

Azadi as inspired and written as a manifestation of the people of Iran and it's diasporas desire to see freedom for our Motherland in song form. It embodies the pain and sorry Iranians across the world feel about the current events, as well as our fustrations from the lack of coverage by the world media. Yet it also embodies hope. The very Hope that by continuing to push forward we will soon see the day where Azadi is not just a dream held by Iranians worldwide but becomes a reality.

To Iranians back home and the diaspora worldwide, may this song inspire you to continue your efforts, regardless of how big or small, towards obtaining freedom for the people of Iran. To our non Iranian alies, my only request is that you play this song and spread it so that others may become of aware of the current events in Iran so that they too can assist the Iranian people in obtaining basic human rights and ending the injustices and the occupation of the Islamic Republic.

lyrics

Intro:

Oh Khamenei though thou fear me not
Heaven's vengeance will not be forgot
Shrink tyrant from my words of fire
and tremble at a poet's ire

Verse 1:

Imagine livin in a place where exposin your hair
Or the simple choice of the clothes you've chosen to wear
endangers your life, while unrest grows in the air
Under a government who'd rather see you frozen in fear
Where basic rights are denied but we fight to divide
From a Dictatorship, showing might with our pride
A portrait of struggle as dark I've painted it
Was the reality that Mahsa was acquainted with
Until the moment that they smoldered her flame
and a nation and diaspora shouldered her pain
What would you do if was your child pleadin for breath
Inside that van being beaten to death
by motality police, tell me where's the morality
When murder and injustice have become the normality
the many voices of the fallen remain
The motivation for the movement callin her name

Hook 1x
Last night when I closed my eyes
I had a dream
I saw the day where once again my people would be free
No longer subject to war
Or corrupt regimes
I hear their voices in the air they echo "Azadi!"

Verse 2:

These religious zealots tell it to maintain the facade
That the crimes they commit are in the name of a God
but Allah would never give free reign to a fraud
to misuse the word to inflict pain on the scarred
these are the tricks to the politics left behind by Ruhollah
Passed down to his followers, placed upon to control the
Narrative of the Mullahs, so wrought full of evil
but they'll never kill the dream that we've sought for our people.
Let freedom ring with a buckshot the hour is near
the Grand Ayatollah cowers in fear
Let this song resonate for World powers to hear
the future of Iran's destiny is ours to steer
Defiant in the face of a tyrant Goliath will fall
To the mobs burnin hijabs the riot will call
To our people taking a stand, yellin "Be gone!"
as we cast them from our land "Zende bad Iran!"

Hook 2x
Last night when I closed my eyes
I had a dream
I saw the day where once again my people would be free
No longer subject to war
Or corrupt regimes
I hear their voices in the air they echo "Azadi!"

Let them be free!
